02 / Meet the artist
A curious eye.
An African soul.
“My natural talent is fuelled by my passion for art, a natural curiosity and a desire for excellence.”
I'm Ian Maree, a largely self-taught South African artist. I work primarily in oils on canvas, while also exploring acrylic and charcoal.
My paintings move between expressive portraiture, African subjects and wildlife, and the people, places, colours and movement of Johannesburg. I'm drawn to emotion, the play of light, and the character that makes every subject its own.
My work has found homes with local and international collectors, in homes and businesses across six continents.
